Finally back in Glencoe - had a few months on the injury bench since a fall on the Cobbler in July, went to A&E the following morning and got 4 weeks on my back in a hospital bed with fractured vertebrae and various other breakages and punctures. Not recommended unless you like watching Jeremy Kyle. Had a few walks in the Arrochar Alps in the last couple of months but this would be the first proper outing.

Obligatory Buachaille pic which everyone takes when they stop for a pee.

Path is steeper than I remember, near the top:

I've been waiting for this - SCNL in all its glory.
Image

Boomerang Gully, turned out to be a snow swim so I took a steep, rocky exit gully on the left.
Image

Queues on Dorsal Arete.
Image

Climbers around Twisting Gully and Chimney Route.
Image

Boomerang again, with the narrow exit gully.
Image

There were prints in the snow leading to the gully but they soon petered out and it became a bit laborious.
Image

The exit gully was steeper with rocks and patches of frozen turf to hook on, I had few frantic moments before the easier-angled ground above.
Image

Plenty of camera breaks required on the plod to the summit.
Image

Couple descending the ridge to Gearr Aonach. Met folk on the summit who had come up the zig-zags which were apparently fine.

Two guys had just come up Broad Gully, said it was fine but hard going ascending unconsolidated snow.
Image

Much easier on the way down even if I didn't risk a bumslide.

Climbers from earlier

Collected some water from the burn on the way back which found its way into a painkilling malt.

Yeah, fingers crossed for stable weather conditions and a freeze to let the snow consolidate.

Great photos, the classic gullies(sc & twisting) still look like they are lacking consolidation.

Nice pictures there gman, good to see you back out . Done a lovely gully ascent and descent of Fuar Tholl yesterday that would be right up your street. Went up a soft snowed grade 2 on the north east face and descended a grade 1 gully on the same cliff. The snow was more consolidated in the grade 1 gully . We need a thaw before any further freeze to harden the snow pack , here's hoping.

Stunning photos of spectacular day out. Shame the snow wasn't more consolidated (would have made the gully more enjoyable I'm sure), but what fabulous views!

I picked up a helmet, a pair of DMM Flys and G12s for easy grade stuff last winter - got most of it on ebay. You get snow, ice & stones falling in the gullies so the helmet was handy. Some folk recommend one axe but I feel safer with 2, although there were scrambly bits where the 2nd one was in the way (I only used 1 on Ledge Route). Had a blast last winter, definitely recommended.
