Walk no 1 on our jaunt around the Braemar area. Last time we were at Keiloch car park we had two bikes, no dog and Ben Avon waiting for us. This time, no bikes, one dog and a gentle 5.4 miler instead.

The Hubs picked this walk and it was a total gem with fabulous views every which way. At the highest point of the walk we stopped for lunch in a small copse of pine with some great flat rocks (perfect for walker's bums) and fantastic views over towards Lochnagar.

Eating Scotch bonnet cheddar sarnies whilst watching the clouds come in over Lochnagar is definitely to be recommended.

On the final third of the walk we came across curious multi-coloured stacked boxes sat in the middle of nowhere. Nosy creatures that we are, we came up close to investigate and discovered that they were bright little bee homes. Two of the hives had fallen over. Wind?

Exercising great care we attempted to put the lids that had blown off the two damaged hives back on. The combs were laid bare with the smell of heather honey wafting out but some rather soggy looking bees in there.

However a rather defensive bee gave me a sharp sting on my calf and that put paid to our plans to put the roofs on the damaged hives. Ungrateful blinders. Up yer bum, bees.

Rest of the walk was thankfully sting-free.
