Enjoyable afternoon tussle. Followed the WH route from Tomnavoulin to the southern shoulder. Quite a lot of snow on the forest track but powder falling from branches looked great in the sun. The way was barred by fallen trees at a few spots so I eventually exited into the neighbouring field to the west. Back onto the track at its exit from the wood but only for a short time as I was now floundering a bit in deeper snow. Tried for barer ground in the lee and found a harder crust to walk on. On the final slope the heathery boundary of the track provided the easiest ground. Great views all round -Rinnes, Ladder Hills, Cairngorms, Cromdale Hills.

Took a short cut through the fire break above Westertown farm which leads to an open gate onto the outward route.

A very enjoyable walk. Actually wouldn't have minded a wee whisky at the top. Got me thinking now...
