Left Bishopbriggs with Gordon at 8:00am on a bright, sunny but frosty morning. After an easy journey in the passenger seat we arrived at the car park at Auchronie about 10:45 and set of on foot 5minutes later.
A very pleasant walk on the track along side the Water of Mark got us to the Queens Well and Glenmark and a good view of the snow covered summit for which we were heading.
Soon after crossing the burn a couple of time we were walking on crisp snow uptake zig zag path onto the high moorland where black grouse and mountain hares, (still in their winter fur) were in abundance.
A plod up even but steepening slopes over snow of not so even consistency got us relatively easy to the summit.
Some photographs and some lunch and we were soon on the way down before getting too cold.
The uneven consistency of the surface was better appreciated on the descent with howls of laughter as each in turn fell through the crispness to be knee deep in snow.
Yet more hares and grouse were spotted and we were soon back at Glenmark for a wee seat and a drink.
The walk back along the track to the car did feel longer than the way in, but changing light kept things interesting.
A short drive to Edzell and the Tuck Inn for haddock and chips rounded of a perfect day.
