After my previous mountains trip with Mark at Glencoe 4 days ago, where we enjoyed great views
, but did not get the summit, I decided to do some progress in my hills bagging
The weather forecast looked more than promising for monday, which offered more options where to go.
My limited time in week days and the lack of sleep in last a few weeks reduced the selection for some local hills
I decided for Meall Corranaich & Meall a'Choire Leith - 2 Munros near Killin.
These two Munros, my last remaining in Lawers range, I saved for day like this. The choice was supported by more reasons:
1. Usually boggy ground, so good to do them now when the morning's temperature and some remaining winter conditions makes the ground better
2. These two Munros are not something special or even nice, so good to do them now when there is still some snow, because the snow - early morning's sun and blue sky makes the hills looking better
3. Less than 1.5 hour driving time from home
4. Complete the Lawers hills
5. In case of good time and doable conditions, there is a possibility to add also the near Corbett - Meall nam Maigheach and make the progress even more efective
I left home at 04:40 am and arrived in the empty small car park a few mins after 06:00, shortly before the sunrise...
I started the walk at 06:18 am, going anti clock wise - Meall Corranaich first. Despite the chillier morning's temperature and frozen ground there was still a lot of boggy places
, fortunately the tops was much better - still covered by hard snow
Blue sky and sunshine in combination with the white snow made great views 360 degrees around
There was some tricky - slippery parts on the ascent of the first Munro only and apart from some boggy places the walk was enjoyable and quick enough to add also the Corbett. At 10:00 I reached the summit of the Corbett which meant that after 3h 40 mins all three hills was done and the only concern was about the right choice of descending. The Corbett was almost without a snow, wet grass and some boggy places made my decision to join the tarmac road as soon as possible even if it means steeper descent and longer distance, but probably faster and drier on the tarmac
Back at the car park at 10:50, departing just before 11:00...quick stop for a coffee - take away at Killin it was nice to be back home at 12:30
Almost all day still remained ( now before the midnight I'm still writing the report
) and two Munros plus one Corbett ticked
