Since the clearing of trees has now all but denuded Crock there is no need for detailed guidance of the ascent once past Tulloch. As to the walk in and out I think the Cateran Trail offers the best approach, albeit longer. Indeed, on the day of my walk the shorter route from West Freuchie was closed below Cairn Hill, whose turn it is to get the attention of the tree fellers.

Just seeing the name Crock has me giggling at the thought of Sgurr's photo which can be seen on other reports for this hill.

It took them a while to clear the wood but it looks like it's mission accomplished now

I don't REALLY think that everyone should have to crawl up a drainage ditch to be able to bag this hill...............well, yes, I do Seems we must have been nostalgic for the experience since we managed to go astray on a straight forward Marilyn in Wales last week, and, following someone's instructions on the Hillbagging site, turned too early, finding a path that disappeared mid forest instead of an ordinary forestry track. Still picking the twigs out of my woolly hat a week later.

Congrats on mastering Crock.

And to think the name CROCK used to send fear and terror into the hillwalker, armed with machetes you would go ready to tackle the forest ahead and hoping like hell you could find your way back off the summit if you remembered the exact point you entered the then small denuded summit top. Ah well challenge now over and I guess that it will become a busy wee hill with sometime a tourist path appearing, times they are a changing.
