Tuesday, in the absence of Bert and car, it was planB for Alan Billy and I. We parked on the unsung single track road just beyond the talla water bridge. Gear on, then up and out to claim Talla cluegh heights with a return to the Megget stane. The stane sited on a NE/SW bearing marked the shire borders of Peebles and Selkirk-the word tweed etched on one side, seen long ago on a family trip when I drank in the ambience of these hills never dreaming I would ever climb them. Then there was grass around the cattle grid, now there is tarmac-ah well-cross the fence and a steady climb gains windy top of Lochcraig head with superb views over loch Skeen and surrounding hills previously done with Billy. Down to the col, take in fuel for the climb to Molls Cleugh Dod, then the long descent to the gameshope burn which had a fair amount of water charging down it. We crossed with damp feet and hauled our way up to the boggy cairn less top that is Garelet dod- From here shaving the corner led to the ridge and Erie hill then angle off over a further top to reach the trig point of Garelet hill. With rain coming a swift descent along side the witches linn and over the bridge over the games hope burm and the weary climb back to the car. Billy added a geocashe to his tally so rounded off a great day- seen enroute- great views _ sunshine and showers a cold gusty wind that moved you around at times- sheep an lambs an more sheep -few birds- the washed out colours of winter still showing here with the ground, boggy in bits, made for easier walking-and the company- jist great
