I'm not sure I'd consider staying at the moment, but depending on how my PhD is received I may be able to do something here in the future. I can certainly see myself making an annual visit though and I won't need books, pens, and paper, just my boots. By the way, when is your next scheduled trip to the states?
One of the best reports I've read in a while... I really identified with that Stretch, and you've hit on the head many of the reasons I take to the hills. I'm sure you'll manage annual trips back to them... I think I'd go crazy before too long without mine (in fact, I had to make them semi-annually, lol). I'm almost ashamed to admit it, being an east coast girl, but... I've never been to Tennessee! Though what you've written above makes me want to jump in the car right now and find some of this special scenery a bit closer to home!
I'll make it to TN soon enough though, and will be sure to bring HighlandSC with me- he'll be moving here to the states for a little while (after a wedding next year!) so we should have plenty opportunity to check out your area!
