3rd Jan.. It`s the KMC NewYear walk to Shalloch on Minnoch in the Galloway forest and Billy Scade`s final Donald. To complete all the 89 Donalds - spread mostly over the southern uplands is no mean feat and Billy joins an elete band in the KMC of Stuart Kirk. David Walker Jack Seyfried Herbert Hopson and Alan Russel. - The weather is dreich as from the Stinchar c/p our mixed group cross burn bog and heather on a feint track uphill into mist and rain. That we take this easier northern route is a consideration to me and my sore foot/ knee. I hav`n`t been on a hill since Sept. - Boggy underfoot with patches of snow we step into an etheral world as the clag swirls about us and the path gets swallowed by snow - no views or sign of wildlife cepting for us ghostly shapes and three dogs racing about.- would I hae their energy. The team stops to allow me to catch up and the way rises on reaching stoney slopes- so its compass and GPS to find the way to the top and some still get it wrong. Finallly the cairn and trig point - congratulations - celebrations and libations. are in order - Snow scurries and a biting wind lead to a swift reversal of the route (easier going down) back to the car and drier clothes.
Pain was bearable today - so Hey! I`m back in the game
