Easter monday snaps: The taste of Mountains
Posted: Tue Mar 29, 2016 2:34 pm
It's always great to spend a day in the beautiful scottish Highland and see all the outstanding mountains...either it's a monumental mountain or an simple wee hill...nothing is ordinary there...the country is simply beautiful !
You can see the beauty if you are lucky in a clear day...or you can feel the beauty even if hidden in clouds if you are there...if you are walking there...if you are climbing there...
I felt the Easter monday would be a great opportunity to feel the mountains...to see them, to walk them, to climb them. I wanted the feellings on that day, I wanted walk...I wanted climb...I wanted to see...I wanted to feel it...by my body...by my soul...by my heart...by the present time there in the Highlands. I wanted just enjoy the day out there and any views or any climbed Munro or just a wee hill would be a bonus............
It was wet...it was boggy...it was sunshine...it was cloudy...it was snow...it was misty...it was fogy...it was whiteout...it was snowing...it was rain shower.......and it was clear again.......
............it was a day in scottish Highlands !!!
Some shots on the way:
Good morning Rannoch Moor
Closer to Glencoe
Stob Dearg - Buachaille Etive Mor
Creise and the others...
Buachaille Etive Mor
Stob Coire Raineach - Buachaille Etive Beag
Glencoe and the Pap of Glencoe over Loch Leven
Loch Leven and the Pap - from the distance...
................................................................................................................................................
...and some walks and climbing:
Approaching Glen Nevis:
Almost empty car park in the morning
Glen Nevis - Grey Corries
Distance: 17.01 km
Time: 6:34 h
Ascent: 1 248 m
-----------------------------------
Steall waterfall
The Glen ahead
Looking back to Glen Nevis and Mamores
Aonachs behind the tops
Binnein Beag and Binnein Mor
Blue sky behind the clouds...
On my way up...looking back down
Grey Corries in the clouds - misty ahead
Towards Mamores
Sgurr Choinnich Beag
Looking ahead...no much optimistic view...there is the Munro and the ridge
Aonachs in the mist
Mamores again
Looking back from the ascent
...and from the higher level
On the Grey Corries Ridge:
The summit of Sgurr Choinnich Mor
Continuing the ridge
Looking down
Rocky, snowy, misty.......and narrow
Hard to recognise the border between a cornice and snowy rock...whiteout ahead
Time to turn back...the Munro was a bonus of the day:
Back on the ridge near the cornice
In the lower level...looking back up, there is not change...still no visibility on the side on top
...and looking ahead to the Glen and Mamores - Ring of Steall in clouds
Clearer sometimes...
Looking back to the ridge...a different world there
.....................................................................................................................................................................................................
On my way back home I remembered an older report from Rod about a wee - short - quick hill near the road...a wee hill where you can get great views.
thank you for the tip Rod
Rannoch Moor
Distance: 1.87 km
Time: 0:35 h
Ascent: 177 m
--------------------------------
No bad views for a wee hill
It was another great day in the mountains...enjoyed it all: driving and stopping for the shots, walking in the beautiful scottish nature, climbing the hills...and some calories burned as well !
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After spending weekend at home with my family and having two wee trips with my daughter Cheyenne during the Easter weekend - happy to see her happy , then counting also this monday's trip to the mountains.......
I can just say:
"It was such a good Easter"
