After a gloriously sunny day at Loch Arkaig yesterday, we awoke (as forecast) to a dreich, wet, sleeting morning. We were based at the Great Glen hostel and it was a fairly easy decision to opt for this very easy Marilyn followed by a walk to Steall.
We parked at the park and picnic area just above Fort William. This town may not look good in the best of conditions, but today it looked particularly glum!
It is a short and easy walk to the trig point, with a path all of the way. Due to the low cloud and sleet, there was not much to see at the top.
- The view down Loch Linnie - such as it was!
- Looking to the mouth of Loch Eil
There was no motivation to linger, so we headed down to the car and drove to the car park at the end of the Glen Nevis road.
- Start of the path to Steall (and eventually Corrour)
As always, it was a spectacular walk along to Steall with the noisy River Nevis far below us.
- Heading along the path
- Looking up to An Gearanach
It's always a bit of a surprise how suddenly you emerge from the gorge to the Steall meadows
- Coming out of the gorge
We had lunch at the meadows as the weather brightened - even The Ben cleared up!
- The Ben from Steall
- Steall waterfall
An easy walk back to the car and the drive home.
Good to get out - even if the morning weather was pretty rotten.
