This was without doubt one of my favourite days in the hills - it had everything! The weather changed every half hour blue skies, blizzards, blue skies, white outs, blue skies, blizzards and the terrain varied from 3 foot deep snow on parts of the route up and initial descent to turgid boggy marshes on the long hike back. But I loved it!

An Casteil ahead

The snow started getting pretty deep as I gained height on An Casteil

Then the blizzards hit and I got a proper frozen beard!

Visibility dropped rapidly on the approach to the summit

And as quick as the blizzard swept in, it cleared again

Some pretty tricky ledges near the top of An Casteil

Epic views when the white out cleared

Things started getting tricky en route up Beinn a'Chroin.

IMG_8381_web_960_c.jpg
3 feet deep snow on a steep slope made for some interesting sections of the walk!

IMG_8391_web_960_c.jpg
This was the trickiest section of the lot - a deep snow filled gully up to the main Beinn a'Chroin ridge

Worth it for the views though!

Fantastic stuff

I don't fancy the ledge on An Casteil covered in wet snow! I had similar weather when I was out on Saturday, constant showers rolling over bringing rain, sleet, hail and all interspersed with blue skies. A cracking day and you got some great pics.
