We decided to do a walk outside of Aberdeenshire, and chose the Airlie Monument walk as our first one. After a lovely drive into Dykehead, we kitted up and headed off on the short 5.5km route. As we were about to head off-road and up the track, the heavens opened, but we carried on anyway into the forest and started the ascent to the monument.
Either we are getting fitter, or the uphill section wasn't very steep, as we powered our way to the top in no time at all and were greeted with the eiree sight of the Airlie Monument. Glen Clova was covered in fog, and the rain was still falling, and it was really quiet up on top of the hill. We took some photos, had a look around the top of the hill, before setting off back down the track.
Once at the bottom, we crossed the road at the Scott Monument and headed along a farm track beside a forest and some local farmhouses back to Dykehead. By now, the rain had stopped and the fog was clearing, so we had some amazing views of Glen Clova in the distance.
All in all, it was a nice, gentle walk, when you consider what we have been on before.
