Hi Colin, just read your Orval trip report, for such a small island it has so much history and lots of leftover machinery from bygone days, ie stone crusher and winches. Unfortunately on the Saturday with the low cloud we just headed out to Harris Bay and missed out Orval, I would like to return to the sandy bay up on the North coast, we saw it when we took the ferry to Canna.
Must admit although I've done lots of wild camping on my own I have never stayed in a Bothy on my own, still to live that experience. You must of had one of the very few good days sat Summer to do your Rum trip, would not fancy doing it in wet windy and misty conditions.
