Before going I'd asked about a circular route in the forum and got some advice that this was possible though the recommended route is usually up and back the same way.

So we walked along the loch through about 3 areas of forest until well past the slab and when the path decended steeply we headed straight up through the forest on very rough ground, climbed a deer fence onto pretty steep ground and slogged west up to the ridge and from there northish to the summit.

We then returned in the conventional way.

Very enjoyable and decently strenuous.
