I never climbed those boulders either, and still ticked the hill off my list OK.

I don't climb summit cairns or trip points either, on other hills, so there!

Nice report! I did Beinn a’Bhuird that way, all on foot, in the late 80’s with the plan of going over to Ben Avon. However i was destined to spend 1hour 50minutes searching for he tiny summit cairn in the clag - box searches anyone? - and just retreated back from the Sneck instead. Great walk, and I didn’t fully appreciate how far it was til I did Ben Avon 3 years ago using the bike!
Loved your photos and your descriptive approach.

I don't really mind you're not climbing the rocks but I'm sad that by dashing up to the Munro and back you missed 90% of what this fabulous mountain has to offer :( :( :(

No dashing up to it and back - I did have a leisurely picnic lunch sitting at the foot of the tor for about an hour! :D

(I just didn't want to break an ankle, since it was a solo walk, so no climbing up those rocks for me).

Yes but the summit is just one of about a dozen tors on that amazing plateau :D :D - all worth a visit
And I think to go and then come back the same way (if you did) is really a shame :( there are so many ways to reach it.

I didn't come back the same way - I next went to Beinn a'Bhuird. Navigation around that summit a bit of a challenge on that day, but I got there in the end. A very enjoyable, leisurely, circular walk.

Glad to hear that  - yes Beinn a'Bhuird is a difficult summit to find in bad visibility - coming the other way we'd started down a few metres before we realised: the rather flat cairn is a few metres N of the path

Fabulous report.

This is my final Munro to do in the Cairngorms and I'll certainly use your walk report as a helpful guide.

Thanks so much. :D
