I'm not sure which Scottish hill you'd choose to for a first walk with a special guest from the US, but this was my choice, and it worked out pretty well :)

En route to a stopover just south of Inverness, on the first day of a road trip with shorton to the West coast (and as it turned out a lot of sunbathing 8) ), Tom Bailgeann seemed like a good choice for a late afternoon wander. Once we left the A9, the drive up Strathnairn and past Loch Ruthven was beautiful.

After parking on the B862 at the bottom of the rough track, the route up was pretty straightforward, as we followed the track all the way to the top. We headed over the short extra distance to the cairn NW of the tower, to check the views in either direction along the Great Glen, and across Loch Ness.

But the views back to the surprisingly large Loch Duntelchaig and the Monadh Liath were just as interesting.

Creag nan Clag—plenty of crag and no clag!

We basked in the sunshine for a while, before heading back down pretty much the way we came to the car, and a quick trip up to our accommodation.
