An early start as I wanted to climb this hill before driving home after a night at Ratagan SYHA.
- Ratagan SYHA
Just a short drive from the Hostel along the main road and parked to use the path that accesses The Saddle. It was a bright and dry morning. The path leading from the glen to within a few minutes of the summit is excellent and well angled.
- The early stages of the path
I made good progress and despite a long day out yesterday, I felt fine.
- Looking up to the col and the summit to the right.
I had a short stop en route for a snack and to fill my water bottle as the streams were looking quite dry. Thereafter, I set out on the long section of path contouring under Meallan Odhar - again quite easy going, with the views opening out all the time.
- Heading to the col
Once at the col, I was able to strike out along the ridge line to the cairn. There were traces of a path from time to time, but the route was never in doubt. Great views over to The Saddle.
At the cairn there was a lovely view of the surrounding hills, although you are not high enough to see over them for a more extensive outlook.
- Glen Shiel from the summit
- Looking down Loch Duich towards Applecross
- Part of the Five Sisters ridge
- Sgurr Mhic-Bharraich and Loch Duich
I came back down the same way and was back at the car in the late morning.
A cracking week hill set amongst some of the finest scenery in the country.
