Lawers Range: Part 2. ANd Stuc makes it 50

This report isn't gonna be winning any monthly awards


The first part of the walk is long the road from the hotel.


Up through the undergrowth. It was wet and the flies were awful, just swarming around me


The early views up to the hills I'd be walking. Hoping the weather will hold.


I spent a bit of time at this pool.


My chosen route. Pathless.

The climb up Meall Garbh is pretty steep nothing that hard.

Looking back over the distance covered I'd covered so far. It's a longer than it looks between these 2 hills Greigh and Garbh I mean.








Oh look, the summit is clag free...I took plenty of pictures to prove it!

The rain and wind came on really heavy now and the walk down from Meall Garbh was painful. I found relief behind a huge boulder for a while hoping the wind would ease off. No views of An Stuc this whole time.

I took a wee video of An Stuc when it showed it's face.


I had been looking forward to climbing An Stuc up through the scramble but the weather was giving me second thoughts. I waited a few minutes, packed my poles away, adjusted the jacket and off I went.


The first part of the climb is pretty easy. I was already scoping out the way home.

The climb gets vertical and then the fun begins. Picking my way up the rocks was fun, slippery but the wind wasn't a problem as this side of the hill seemed pretty sheltered. Visibility wasn't the best.


Before I knew it I had reached the top. It's over? I think I must have taken a wrong turn or something because I found the scramble pretty easy.

And there it is, the summit of my 50th Munro....

Congrats on the first 50 teaandpies

Did these 3 in a heat wave a couple of years ago and was knackered before I was half way up the 1st hill. With no wind the first bit in the trees was the same as you - flies everywhere.

Although it was really hard work on the day, at least it was dry for the climb up An Stuc - wouldn't have fancied it in the wet.

The walk up the first hill was the hardest part of the day, it's long and featureless. The wet pathless ground was sapping my will more than my energy.

An Stuc was a ton of fun, I did check and double check a few of the hand/foot holds. The whole thing seemed to pass very fast, a bit of an anti-climax to be honest.

The walk out was a slog, not hard just not fun.
