I was on the way along the A96 to Aberdeen but managed to get time for a short walk :D . I followed the descent route that HighlandSC described. It was steeper than I expected but the mountain bike trail provided a helpful path. There seem to be quite a few "unofficial" bike trails there. The trig pillar at the top is reasonably well defended by trees but wasn't too hard to spot.
