Having been out of the hill walking game for some considerable time I recently decided to return to a hobby I enjoyed many years ago. My aim is to bag a few Munros in the future but at the moment I need to ease my old bones(over 50) back in slowly. Wi this in mind I set of with an old friend to climb the highest hill near to where we live and that being Pen-Y-Fan in south Wales. We arrived at our start point, The Storey Arms car park at just after 9am and after sorting ourselves out we stepped off across the footbridge at 09.30.
The weather forecast had been for an overcast but dry day, however as we started the cloud cover was down to about 200 feet. We stopped for a breather and a drink just before entering the clouds. We looked back and enjoyed the view of the car park and Fan Fawr on the oposite side of the road, this was to be the last view we would have today as the cloud came down and the wind began to pick up. It took just over the hour for us to reach the ridge where we took the left hand path and heade up to Corn Du. We stopped at the crag just below the summit at sheltered from the wind for a while before heading back up to the summit. Great views from here apparently, almost a totally white out due to cloud and mist for us though.
A quick photo opportunity and the headed of towards the summit of Pen-Y-Fan. There were a lot of people on the summit and the wind was gusting gale force so we agian took a quick pic and headed back down. We were back in the var park by 1pm and both aagreed that it had been a thourghly good experience and a good work out for our old bones. Next trip will be at the end of August in the Lake district. I would add some photos but dont as yet know how to resize them to fit this board.Ill have it sorted by August.

Welcome back to the hills Greg, bit of a shame that the cloud cut your views short for the day but you got up there and enjoyed it that's all that matters

For posting pics here most people now use an external source such as picassa, flikr or the like and then just link them back to here, doing so means you don't have to think about image size at all and there is no restriction on the number of images either (for when you do that monster hike in the near future  )

Looking forward to seeing your trip to the lakes next month
