Carn Gorm no go - access blocked by forestry

Went to do these four today but the hill path was blocked by forestry works, there were a few other people heading up one group decided to do Schiehallion instead another two guys decided to try and find a way around by following the deer fence. I did Meall nan Tarmachan instead. Lots of people arriving in the car park, but there is no notice about the closure on the notice board nor any indication of how long the route will be closed for.

Hi kat
It was us you walked to the fence with. Schiehallion was great, hope you and the dogs enjoyed tarmachan. Rang the estate and the logging company but no response. Going to try again Friday. If the two chaps from London read this, did you manage to find a way round?

Did the 4 on Monday. Once through the gate and up the path then over the stiles there is a sign for walkers to go which leads down to the wee shoogly bridge with a " route to Carn gorm" signpost.
Misty up top but the views going up were awesome and coming down; seeing where we had just wslked were superb as well.
Deer and grouse aplenty
Feeling though that the estate doesn't want you there but they'll tolerate you!!
Ps the number on the website for cheshill stalker/gamekeeper is an old one. He left a while ago. He'll probably give you the new number though if you ask him.

In the past we have done this group up Glean Mhuilinn. It's longer, of course but there is a path, and you avoid all the hassle of going past notices shouting about stalking.

Didn't see any sign indicating an alternative route, just a big sign saying hill path closed. They certainly aren't making it easy for walkers.

Glad you had a good day on Schiehallion! My two had a great time on Tarmachan, they could be off lead and they found mud! Which they very kindly shared...! Loads of people going up Lawers but only a few going up Tarmachan.

Sounds like a better idea, I was on the website and it wasn't at all welcoming. Doesn't strike me as the friendliest estate in Scotland!

Glad I read this report as it was one of our possibilities for the English bank holiday this weekend. Won't bother in that case

It'll be fine.
