Having ventured to the Lakes with my 3 children (aged 5, 7 and 9) and two other friends and their children I needed to select an easy route given the inexperience amongst us albeit my two oldest summited Scafell Pike, Snowdon and Ben Nevis whilst one was aged 5 (not in the same day I must add) and have bagged circa 10 of my current 22 Wainwrights, so whilst camping at the popular Park Foot Farm near Pooley Bridge I opted for the small walk from "The Hause" which is just up the lane from the "Quiet Site" camp site. Personally I found this one of the easiest hills ever bagged and that includes my local in the Southern Peak District called "Shutlingsloe" which I have been running up regularly for 20+ years.

After a couple of styles from the road the route takes a steep climb before bearing right and remaining equally as steep, literally within 20 mins from the road you reach the summit. My heart rate was nice and fast and body was under the impression that the warm up was complete, I tested the water by suggest the sister fell "Great Mell Fell" but understandably my non-walking friends were keen to admire the views and venture back down.

Oh well, another summit bagged!! Gowbarrow and Great Mell will not be going anywhere.

Good to hear of young kids heading out to the hills and perhaps best not to overtax them early on....they might decide it's too much like hard work
