Ben Lomond

Having spent the last few weeks practising on other hills and walks including Ben Ledi, the hills behind kippen, Dumgoyne hill and the Craggs at Callandar we decided to take the plunge and attempt our first Munro.

So together with Ruby our (very sociable) Dalmatian my 9 year old daughter Gaby, her friend Molly and I tackled Ben Lomond. We started from the car park at Rowardennan at 0915 and made it back via circular route at around 4pm (a wee bit scary for us novice walkers). A truly glorious day with some wonderful views and a couple of strange sights too (4 cyclists - 3hours up v 20 mins down! and a superfit but completely crazy young lady who "jogged" the mountain.

Suggestions for our next munro very welcome - around the trossachs and maybe a little more challenging would be ideal.

Congratulations to the four of you on your first Munro.
Must admit you look more knackered than your daughter in that second picture. Dont tell me, you carried all the bags?

Obvious choice for a next Munro from the same area would be Beinne Narnain, with Beinne Ime aswell if you're not tired after that.

Well done on your first Munro! Ben Lomond is a lovely hill to get started on with stunning views. I've done it a couple of times and had similar weather both times, so a dip in the Loch afterwards was very welcome. Now you've got the bug it's uphill all the way now!

Good call on the "you look knackered" comment too. I did carry all the bags but no excuse really. I did the Glasgow half marathon last year and the feeling at the end of the walk (and the next morning) was comparable! Anyone who thinks hillwalking isn't strenuous activity is seriously misguided - Lol!
