Two different days in the Gorms.

The sun returned here on Sunday...a good day to get the shorts on....first time since Sutherland two months ago!... and head for the higher ground.
Using the goatrack out of the Sneachda coire is one of the many ways to reach the high ground.

For me the Gorms are vast gravelly plateaux and dark shadowy craggy coires...not spectacular hills but the coires are always worth a visit...I don't know what the reindeer find to nibble in amongst this lot.

The wee memorial to the Avro Ansen crew has a very fine position looking into the great coire.

Monday was spent on the recovery of G-CKHF. This glider came down at 850 metres on the North side of Geall Charn....the Sgorans one. It was thought that by adding a couple of wheels to the glider that we could manage to control the descent. It did not work so it became three separate loads of two wings and a battered fusilage. Traversing the hillside to find the most suitable vegetated slope down which to slide the three main parts. A trip to puratory with eight separate stages and millions of biting insects to ward-off.

The main pieces were slid down on ropes where possible and then dragged to the forest track end where it meets the allt a mharcaidh and reunited with the long trailer wherein these machines are kept....then returned to the Feshie airstrip......no doubt for the insurance assesor to fix a price.
