Arkaig Corbett,a change of plan, for the better, what a day!
Posted: Wed Oct 12, 2016 5:31 pmWe had stayed at the Tyndrum Campsite the night before but with all others having other hills on their mind I had decided to take in a fairly unexciting and probably very boggy Corbett on the way back home Beinn nan Imirean on my own, but before this I headed to the Real food Cafe in Tyndrum for my wakey up dose of caffeine, whilst there I got a message from Mountain thyme that she had looked into the Pine Trees Campsite where I said I was staying but because of it being flooded the night before I had been turned away. After a few text messages and finding out she was heading to another Corbett at the West end of Loch Arkaig and that she was heading through Ballachulish with a proposed stop in Fort William it was a no brainer, decision made, drive like hell to meet up with Mountain Thyme at Fort William.
Was that a good decision or what, what a day this turned out to be and what a wee gem of a Corbett , great hill, great day and great company what more could you possibly want.

- After the long winding drive up the Loch Arkaig road and eventually finding a parking space, it was very busy with us being a bit late to arrive, all thanks to me keeping Theresa waiting at Fort William. At the start not looking too promising at this stage maybe a later start was a good idea after all, all good planning of course
- We just followed the track marked to Glen Dessary Lodge and after the bridge over the allt na Feithe burn with the wee stone cottage in view further west, immediately took the feint path on the West side of the burn, nothing too boggy here
- Signs that the sun is trying to get through, not long now I guess
- Looking over the newly built Glen Dessary Lodge, something we would not loose sight of throughout the days walk, even on the summit ridge you could see it
- Looking back at the cloud burning off, yes it was going to be another cracking day on the hill
- Further up the SE shoulder of Druim a Chuirnquite hard going with no path at this point
- Looking back down the glen with all cloud now burnt off
- Mountain Thyme finding her own way up the gradient with the lodge still in view in the distance
- Becoming much more rocky higher up in some case it was easier going rock hopping rather than through the deep undergrowth
- A pause for reflection on such a fine day and the superb views all around us
- She's off again, better get going to catch up

- After this there is a good stone dyke and metal fence posts to follow nearly all the way to the summit, handy in poor conditions
- Feint path alongside the stone dyke
- Just follow the dyke and you soon pass a slabby section but nothing to cause any bother
- Summit of Sgurr Cos na Breachd-laiogh slightly East of the wall and fence line, reached in 3 hours 20 mins

- We decided to just drop down this gully and traverse around, some sections were quite wet and slippy and steep in places

- As we were coming off the hill I happened to hear a noise near a big rock and after a closer inspection found this wee fellow hiding, I have never seen a badger before what a bonus

I saw one once crossing the road bridge in Cannich.
