Posted: Wed Oct 19, 2016 2:31 amA wee walk to stretch the legs and lungs in preparation for an assault on the great Schiehallion tomorrow. Mrs MG and Tango the dog were along too for their first 'bagging' expedition. It was only a very short walk from the week's holiday cottage to the jump off point on a clear and crisp autumn day.
From the off it a was a tight pull up from the B846 opposite Drumcastle Farm along an old zig-zag path leading up to a deer fence. A simple squeeze through the wires allows us to press on through browning bracken to a crumbling wall. Tango is loving it as we enter proper fell territory heading directly north along the old drovers track. To our east is the high ground of Torr na Cabar and then Tom na Moine.
Tango now advises us to start climbing the shoulder joining Beinn a'Chuallaich and Tom na Moine and we diligently follow.

A couple of mountain hares scarpered ahead of us which only excite Tango even more as we neared top. A false horizon or two eventually revealed the impressive cairn that actually the trig point from our view. Tango thought the trig point looked a tad dry so in the absence of a tree or lamppost watered it.

The 360ยบ views were clear, far and spectacular, but all dominating was old Schiehallion to the south. A wispy shawl of cloud draped over her shoulders Schiehallion looked resplendent in the weak autumn sun.

With no flask for a brew and me having still tired legs from Sunday's Loch Rannoch marathon we just took the obligatory photos and retraced our steps.

With the cutting wind now to our backs it was a pleasant amble home to the wee cottage tucked away in the golden copper shaded woods.

I was very proud of Mrs MG and Tango for not once whinging about the steepness of the climb, lack of clear paths, no prosecco, sore feet, no cats to chase...........
