I have finally got round to editing and posting the pictures from our Lake District weekend earlier this month. This first part covers the Friday. After an early start and a couple of trains, I met my companions at Penrith station just before 11 a.m. and we immediately headed for Stair, to start with Causey Pike and keep a flexible plan from there.
The path climbs quite sharply, giving great views back towards Derwent Water.

Soon we were at the top, looking over to Skiddaw:

Continuing over Scar Crags, we were soon at the top of a rather artistic new zigzag path up Sail:

The summit cairn is not one of the Lakes' finest, but at least there are views:

Since the weather was still good, Eel Crag was an obvious next objective

We also got a look down towards Buttermere:

From the summit plateau, it was a sunny Whiteside that caught the eye:

We made the mistake of staying on the ridge too long, and after a slightly awkward steep scree descent we were soon at Coledale Hause, ready to start the long and rather industrial walk down to Braithwaite

So a fine warm-up day.
