Piping on Stob Ghabhar

After a tough week at work, the Friday forecast was promising, with 90% chance of cloud free Munros, and little or no wind (I will be having words with the forecasters )

It begins

Despite cloud coming in as I got to the summit, today was a wonderful Autumn walk, with spectacular colour and sound (apart from me at the top ) The waterfall was in constant earshot, the birds were in full voice, and later on, the sound of the stags sounded like a mountain monster guarding it's land.

Having climbed Stob a'Choire Odhair previously, and basically not being fit enough to carry on, and a late start, meant that Stob Ghabher would be the only one targeted today. As it turns out, with the cloud, I wouldn't have carried on anyway.

Views opening up

A largley unknown Munro, I was stunned at the views looking over all the Bridge of Orchy Munros. Many a time, I sat down, taking it all in. As height was gained, the view only improved. Several bogs aside, this was a very pleasant climb.

Gaining height

I started meeting other climbers as I got nearer the top. At one point, I got the biggest fight I have ever had on the hills. I was re-packing my bag, when the big creature just appeared from above...it was a beautiful Lab, and a very friendly one at that, however, his sudden appearance really took me by surprise.

As I said, the cloud covered the summit, and I actually walked around the summit at first, before realising my mistake. Visability was shocking, and it suddenly got very cold, so not much time was spent there.

Instead, I sat myself down, about 50 feet from the summit, and took in the stunning views. It's amazing the amount of time you spent getting to these spots, and when you get there, you can't stay long .

All in all, a great wee outing, in what will probably be my last before the snow hits.

Your footwear looks in good condition. Do you hike up in them or do you change attire at the top of the hill?

same shoes i can assure you they are covered in mud lol
