Glenrath route small.gif

Having read the WH reports I was going to park on the verge at the start of the track to Glenrath, but found several large boulders already occupying it. After a fruitless search extending much further down the glen I parked on the wide verge on the west side of the road only about 100m from the Glenrath track.

We followed the track all the way to Glenrathope then continued past it, through a field gate then along a sheep path to a footbridge (railway sleeper?) over the Back Burn. A steady pace zigzagging upwards and following sheep tracks when they were available saw us on the Middle Hill summit in just over an hour. Here we stopped for a snack seated on an old rotting turning post. Afterwards as we headed for Stob Law we spotted something colourful on the fence. It turned out to be three helium balloons - from someone’s 50th birthday celebration perhaps? As we continued Jaywizz found another deflated balloon in the fence. We stopped again at the cairn past the summit of Glenrath Hill and visited the settlement platform marked on the map on the way down. Once on the track we collected the biscuit wrapper we'd noticed in a puddle on the way in. Read Jaywizz's report for more details and photos.
