The forecast for the afternoon was rubbish with the first snow of the winter due in early afternoon and bad enough for whiteout conditions for 2-3 hrs.

I needed something quick that I could do in the morning and this one seemed perfect.

Parked up and walking for just after 7:30am I was hoping to be back at the car by about 10:30am and all being well, dry.

I parked further up the road than the WH starting point as I knew from other reports there was a second spot and this area was bigger so I could get the car well off the road.

This meant that after only about 40 yards the track started to climb sharply up past a couple of houses to my left. The track heads uphill through the woods before reaching a high gate which I couldn't open so had to climb over.

Immediately forking right the track continued to climb fairly steeply and it wasn't long before I was out of the trees and on open moorland.

The Burma Road continues to climb then approaching the hour mark I reached the large cairns marking my departure from the track following a fairly obvious path up Geal-charn Mor. It turned out that the final part of the climb to the top (after leaving the cairn behind) was actually the easiest as the gradient had eased.

So in under an hour and a half and before 9am I found myself at the summit just after the sun had started to peep out from above the low cloud. It didn't last long but for those brief 10 minutes the light was terrific.

After a few photos and a Twix I was off back down the path. The walk back to the car was fairly quick and I was surprised to get back to the car in a time of 2hrs 20 mins - quite strange to be standing by the car before 10am and the walk completed.

This hill was in my thought s for a while so I'm glad I made the most of the decent morning weather - as I compose this the rain is pouring down so far a change I got my timing right.
