Caisteal Abhail, the Sleeping Giant.
Posted: Sun Nov 13, 2016 6:01 pmWeather was looking nice, so fancied a wee jaunt over to Arran to do something different. Nice walk in from Glen Sannox, after getting dropped off by bus from Lochranza. Nothing too steep going around the corrie, just ever increasingly spectacular views of the surrounding hills and beyond.
Once at the top, it's a case of heading around and below the final outcrop, before a wee clamber onto the summit, Be prepared for a sharp intake of breath, as the scenery is quite stunning!
From here we followed the north ridge down the side of Garbh Choire, despite strong temptation to explore other peaks and ridge's. They will wait for the next visit, but ..... will the weather
No other problems aside from annoyance at local bus/ferry scheduling, which for the sake of a few minutes adjustment, would mean they are co-ordinated nicely, as opposed to meaning a long delay waiting for later ferry. This was resolved by hitching a lift back to Lochranza instead, which luckily paid off nicely.
All in, the trip was approximately 6.5miles, 838m of ascent, taking 3.8hrs.
