Hitched up with fellow WH'er, Stephen for the first time, to explore another hill around Glen Etive. Can't believe that was way back in May already! It was a nice, sunny day, too warm at times :)

Looking back up the Glen to the little and large, the wee and the big, the Buachaille's of Etive.

I recall it was a bit boggy, going up the side of the forest and then just a matter of picking the best way round some outcrops, heading SW, to the top of Meal nan Gobhar.

A seriously steep way down!

And, looking south from the same spot.

And, over to beefy, Ben Starav :)

Once up on the flat, the views are superb! We stopped for a wee bit of grub at the cairn, at the minor summit at 767m.

Myself, at the descent spot, I think?

From here it gets a bit steep and rocky, but there's a 'path' of sorts which makes a relatively easy way down to the bealach, at Feadan nan Cruidhean, where we sized up the "challenging" looking descent

Looking back to the cairn at the 767m spot, bordered by the two Buachaille's. An older, yes, older than me, chap, enjoying a breather :)

Moving on, it didn't seem to take much time, or trouble to the summit, where we soaked in the spectacular panorama, taking a few snaps, before heading back to the descent route.

On the summit of Beinn Trilleachan. Paps way in the distance.

South, over Loch Etive towards Ben Cruachan.

Mull, way in distance behind the summit cairn.

It was certainly very steep. Just a matter of taking one's time. Would not have liked to have tacked it in the wet :) Eventually the gradient eases off and we were able to see some climbers enjoying themselves on the impressive looking slabs. Not for me

Much steeper than it looks!

It was still a bit of a walk, back along the side of Loch Etive to the car, taking us 6 hours, for the 6 and a half miles and 1000m of ascent. Quite a tough hike, but well worth it and hope to match up with Stephen again next year :)

Looks a more serious prospect now!

Some very fine images of the area. Those of the Slabs are interesting.....I think that the images of the two folks are in the region of the climb Swastika anyway if not it will be close by. In the '60's I enjoyed the classic climb so much that I returned a bit later for a repeat. We spent many happy days on those slabs....we always chose a day when the sun was warm and the granite was dry. I don't know if it still takes place but then there was a regular boat in from Oban? taking folks up the sea loch to see the magnificent scenery of the area.

A nice looking hill, on an excellent day. And the slabs look like a great playground!

I eyed this up at the beginning of the year when I was doing some hills on the West side of Etive, but basically ran out of time. I need to get back to Etive anyway sometime for some unfinished business, so this would be one to add.

Thaks, Gaffr. Yes, I think there are still regular trips on the loch. Glad the pics of the slabs brings back nice memories. Swastica, interesting name for a climb :) Here's another few pics.

Thanks, Stephen, yep, time flies. Sounds like a big adventure on the Aonach's. Did them earlier in year, certainly was a tough hike. Glad we were home before dark. Would be good to hear more of your wee group and of course meet up ourselves.
