We decided that we would head back into Angus for a longer walk, with a bit of a hill climb, so we chose the Hill of Rowan, in Tarfside. We headed off from the carpark and up a grass track, where I promptly stood in horse poo whilst trying to photograph the local church. Heading up the towards the hill, we got distracted by distant gunshots, and walked past the faint track that takes you to the top of the hill and to the conical monument.
We decided to make our own way up through the heather when we realised we were in line with the monument. We got near the top, and then found the path we should have been on, about 300m back down the track. We had a look inside the monument, before sitting on the makeshift bench at the top for some food and to take in the gorgeous view.
As we headed down the hill, we read the weather perfectly, and changed into our jackets as the rain started falling about 5 mins later. Once at the bottom of the hill, we stopped and saved a sheeps life. She was pregnant and lying on her back, unable to move. We thought she was dead to start with, but as we got closer she started to struggle. Kamila stroked her face and she stopped struggling, whilst I rubbed her neck. We managed to get a hold of her and after a couple of attempts, she started moving the right way, and finally got back to her feet and ran off for some food, looking back towards us as if to say thank you.
The farmer saw us with one of his sheep and came running from the farm house. We explained what happened and he was most grateful as he had lost a sheep the previous week in similar fashion. He pointed us on to the path we needed to be on as we had headed further down to save the sheep, and trudged on in the rain.
We past the beehives, and got back to the road. About 45 mins later, we were back in Tarfside, feeling really good about ourselves. One of the best walks we have done so far.
