I hadn't been to the Lakes since completing the second round of Wainwrights, so with an OK forecast, I headed for Mardale Head, to take in 7 summits around Riggindale. It was pretty cold as I set off, so it was all skins on I followed the track to The Rigg and down to Bowderthwaite Bridge. Climbed up to Kidsty Howe, where I hit the snow line, then continued up to be met by a pair of Ravens on Kidsty Pike. From here, you quickly take in High Raise, Rampsgill Head & The Knott, before climbing up past Short Stile and onto High Street. I continued on to Thornthwaite Crag, before back tracking a bit to go up Mardale Ill Bell. Headed down then, to Nan Bield Pass, before following Small Water Beck back to the car.

A great place at this time of year. There are lots of fine ways up and down those hills from Mardale Head in just a small area.

Hey simon, Chris, i class this area as my home area as it's closest and easiest for the better looking fells. Don't think i've had a bad walk round here
