Arran Coastal Way Alteration

The route from Whiting Bay to Lamlash along the beach is now open. There is a wooden walkway from Kingscross all the way to Cordon, Lamlash. Most of it is above the raised beach through the woods although where the land owners did not permit this some of the route is lower down nearer the beach.
To access this part of the walk from Whiting Bay you should walk to Kingscross via Sandbraes, across the bridge over the burn, and turn right along a dirt track which leads onto the beach. After about 200m turn off the beach over a stile and follow a path and wooden walkway through some trees until you emerge onto a grassy area which leads to the Neolithic burial chamber and Viking fort at Kingscross. Follow the path west until you come to the new wooden walkway to Cordon from where you walk to Lamlash along a path past the tennis courts.

Hi,

I just came back from walking the Arran Coastal Way.
There are well new wooden boardwalks between Kingscross and Cordon, but they are not all the way throughout, as the above message could suggest. You have to switch between the stony shore and the boardwalks. At the end of each boardwalk a sign indicates how far it is to the next one. This can be between 50m and 400m.
So even with the boardwalks, this part of the Arran Coastal Way is not possible at high tide.
But it helps a lot to avoid the most difficult parts of this stage of the wonderful long distance walk that's the Arran Coastal Way.

Walked this section today. Please note that there is a small section between Kingcross point and Cordon that is impassable around high tide. not passable 2 hours after high tide when I was there today. Gave up waiting and walked back and up along the road to Lamlash. After some addition research it is clear from the official website https://www.coastalway.co.uk/ that this is something to watch out for. Boardwalks ares till in place and fully functional though
