Munros Ninety Eight to One Hundred and Three

This was the fifth day that Toddy and I had been out on a lonely circuit of the lower half of Glen Lyon and the weather could not have been less obliging. After traversing Meall nan Tarmachan from west to east on the previous day, we had descended past the northern end of Lochan na Lairige before heading up to camp at about 750m on the burn descending north north west from Meall Corranaich. We passed a reasonable night of intermittent showers and wind before heading off on the final day of the trip at a relatively early hour.

Our first top was Meall a'Choire Leith - an easy stroll to the north in encouraging weather - but, when we turned south to tackle the rest of the Lawyers Range, poor weather had arrived for the duration. We spent the rest of the day battling over clagged in tops in heavy rain with the only memories of note being a bit of a struggle to find the best route up Beinn Ghlas from the bealach to the north west, an unexpectedly steep descent off An Stuc and an interminably wet plod off Meall Greigh to Fortingall where we enjoyed a convivial pint in front of a warm fire at the hotel before heading off south in our respective cars. It had been good to get away and onto the hills for a few hard days.

I remember it well, Christopher! When do you aim to reach your last Munro, then? I'm on 222 of my second round, and I'm sure my final one will be the Inn Pinn which I had the chance to do on our joint trip, and declined! PT

Toddy,
Excellent to hear from you! Steve Chalk and I are heading up to do some stravaiging in late May and, at the rate I'm going, I'll probably be in a position to finish either next year or soon afterwards; that'll put me over the 50 year mark! I'm saving Schiehallion for my last Munro, partly as it's relatively accessible for other people and partly because of its place in the history of geophysics; having spent much of my time in the hills in the company of physicists such as Chalky and you, it seems appropriate!
Happy to take you up the pinnacle if you need someone with a rope to do the honours! (I'll be in touch via Kay who I think, unlike me, has still got your contact details...)
