As you can see from the map this walk never got finished. I slipped on some wet grass fracturing my Fibula and Tibia. Thus becoming Keswick mountain rescues first case of the new year.

I would like to thank the total strangers that heard my calls for help and stayed with me for two hours making sure I was as comfortable as possible until help arrived. I would also like to thank the professionalism and skill of the crew of the Lancashire Air Ambulance helicopter and the members of the Keswick Mountain Rescue teams that came to my aid and managed to get me safely to Barrow Hospital. Of course I also need to thank all the staff who cared for me and put me back together.

I now have six weeks before I can put any weight on my leg and perhaps another six months before I will be fit enough to get out on the fells again

We are so lucky to have these people looking over us. I hope you never need them, but if you do take it from me they are absolute heroes.

Oh man, that is very unfortunate. Wish you a good revalidation. The harder you push yourself (within the reasonable ofcourse), the stronger you will get again. All the best from me.

Jings - that sounded nasty - amazing how it's often the smallest of things which make the biggest impact. Hope the recovery is going well - cheers :)

Good lord Chris what a bizarre thing, and what a reminder that it doesn't have to be a pinnacle ridge or a grizzly bear that gets you....we often forget that this fate threatens all of us in the most benign of circumstances.

Good luck with the recuperation, I'm sure you'll be ready for springtime

Five months now since my accident and I have finally been discharged. I have been told to take it easy for another two months. I can walk without crutches but still have a very slight limp. Consultant says it will be another six months before my leg is back to full strength. I have been walking and cycling for the last three or four weeks and Im starting to get some strength back but the fitness is harder I was off my feet for three months. I'm hoping to get back up Catbells this coming weekend and see how far I get.
