Been past this a few times in the car and thought it might be a fine viewpoint as the views of the Deveron from the road are quite spectacular. However, I was aware from a previous quick inspection that a walk up from the car park would present a bit of battle with the undergrowth or crossing of a barbed wire fence. The only other option, going by bing maps, would be via a couple of gates in the adjacent field.
We first tried to ascend straight from the carpark but it was looking awkward after the first 20m so we decided to check out the field gate. Stroke of luck -both gates near the road were open, as was a third further on. In fact we were able to follow a good track most of the way up and thereafter some fairly dry tracks to the summit ridge, if that's not too grand a title. First view from there was pretty good but not as dramatic as expected -the sight of the river stretching in either direction losing some of its impact compared to the roadside view simply because of the increased distance. It was some view in my imagination beforehand though!
Gentle stroll the rest of the way with good views to Fourman Hill and Knock Hill. Lochnagar, Tap o' Noth and the Buck also prominent to the south.
Was able to take a short cut via a fourth open gate on the way down to catch up with Jill. This way led through a pleasant area of varied woodland.
Left a message with the farmer asking if there are any objections to walking through the field but no answer as yet. I have noticed though that it is used for grazing at times so probably not always accessible.

Open gates all the way, so presumably no objection to walkers -at least outwith grazing season.

Jill gamely soldiering on with stiff neck and sore stomach.

Not quite as dramatic as I'd hoped for but still a grand view of that bend in the river.

Looking slightly manic here -happy to be here but also concerned about Jill.
