Driving up the A9, my wife fancied a coffee in Birnam/Dunkeld. I'd rather have a walk up a wee hill so I left her to it and walked under the A9 and railway by the underpass in Birnam and followed the Birnam Hill signs quite steeply up through the woods until coming out into the open at a rocky outcrop. The views here were better than the summit, I thought. From here it was just a case of following the well-worn path, through some more tress, to the large summit cairn. I didn't linger since I didn't want my wife to be waiting too long so just headed back down the same way. It was a cold frosty morning and there was no sun on the NE facing woods so care had to be taken on the, in places, icy path and exposed tree roots. All in all, a very pleasant short stroll.
