Bike and Hike Glen Feshie Corbetts

These two hills had originally been arranged for February 25th but due to the bad timing of storm Doris which brought a huge dump of snow which made them impossible in the time scale required.
As the daylight hours have extended and with the use of our off road bicycles they would be within our range for today.

Getting the bicycles out of the cars and packing the rucksacks

After leaving the car park it's an easy cycle towards Achlean on a good tarred surface, Yes it's a walk up the first lump just past the farm at Achlean, if you wish.

The only river crossing of the day which provided no problems (to be crossed on the return journey)

After crossing the burn there is a section on a reasonable pathway and near the bridge crossing over the Spey you fork right over a flat grassy area towards the bridge. Pictur crossing the well built vehicular bridge, after crossing bridge either go right up some steps or cycle left it takes you to the same spot on the tarred estate road

The sign telling you to cross here, we jumped on the bikes and cycled towards the Glen Feshie Lodge house approx 3k passing below the main building

Passing some estate buildings on the good tarred surface, just wish some of our designated roads were of the same standard as this

Now on the track heading up the glen, off road bikes perfect for the job

The point where we take the right fork, up until this point very little ascent has taken place now the hard work begins. A tree marks the spot identified by Ruigh fionntaig on OS maps

The track which was to become a fine race track on the way back. We stopped below the Lochan to park our bikes on the left hand side of the track below some scree so we would be able to easily identify where the bikes were on our descent from Carn Dearg Mor

The track ahead ideal once again for off road bikes but we had decided to drop off the bikes at an area of scree slope so there would be no back tracking off the second Corbett

The others arriving at the summit cairn at their own pace. There is another cairn further on but we all thought this was the highest point

On the good track up the second Corbett soon we would leave it onto an ATV track on our right to climb up to the hills South West shoulder

Heading off down theSouth East slopes to pick up the bikes which were left below a large area scree on the on opposite slopes

Certainly the fastest section of the day was the cycle down from below Lochan an t-Sluic

Final river crossing of the day and also the first. Highly recommend the use of bicycles for these two as it will cut your time by at least two hours maybe more depending how far you take them towards the first Corbett
