The missus and I went camping for the extended weekend to Cove Park near Ullswater which is situated at the foot of Little Mell Fell.

After persistant rain all day Saturday we decided on Sunday morning to take a brief stroll up the road and onto the top of my 32nd Wainwright this year.

A steep ascent up the road led to a hop over the wall and a steeper ascent directly to top of Little Mell Fell.

Instead of coming back down same way we took the path directly back towards Ullswater and down through the bracken on eastern side of fell, over looking campsite.

The ground was wet and path was unclear but we got back to site a little damp but ready to go and visit friends in Appleby. Just over an hours walk and some lovely views of Ullswater on a showery day. Not a bad start to the weekend.

Most people probably think it's a boring fell but I liked Little Mell Fell - had great views of the Ullswater mountains :D

I agree. It has a different feel to the big mountains but for very little effort has lovely views over north Ullswater and surrounding hills and valleys. The campsite was nice but extremely wet ... I suppose it was to be expected in mid September.

It makes for a pleasent afternoon stroll. As with many minor summits the views can far exceed expectations. Walking is not necessarily what you do but what you get out of it.

If we tackle this one again, it will be on a drier day as all that bracken brushing against our clothes made us very damp. Damson didn't care though ! She loves hiding out in it !
