Walkhighlands

Due to the awful weather (rain and wind) all morning, my friend Paul and I didnt start the walk until 12.30, the weather did not look promising and there was little view of anything much at all at the car park close to the dam. However we had travelled 300 miles to climb a Munro or two so we set of in the wind and rain. After about 20 minutes we met a lone sole who was absolutely soaked to the skin walking down the track towards the car park. Hopefully this was not what we were about to suffer. The rain did ease but the mist was thick and unable to see much by the time we got to the dear fence. We soldiered on and unbelieveably the mist did lift occasionally and we were able to see our objective in the distance.
As we crossed the stepping stones at the coll before the final climb the mist dropped again and at the summit we were denied our panorama.... Never mind we made it and decided to have a go at the ridge as it had stopped raining, but the wind was very strong. Had lunch behind a large rock close to a small Lochan before climbing Meall Garbh which we could not see!!!

Once at the top the wind was very strong and we took the decision not to walk the narrow ridge and the scramble, it was just too risky. we there fore returned to the bottom of Meall Garbh and returned on a path at the foot (57887 38351) and worked our way down to the old quarry track.

well done on getting as far as you did, good walking - do return one day for one of the best and most accessible ridges in the southern highlands
