This was my first trip to the Loch Lomond area in the three years I've lived in Scotland - why have I not been there sooner? Really enjoyed this walk from start to finish. The weather was great, a bit chilly in the wind at the top, but I was in a light fleece or tshirt most of the day. I set off at noon from the Inveruglas visitors center and quickly made my way around to the Loch Sloy dam where the small cairn marks the spot to head up the slope of Ben Vorlich. The path up was ok, a bit boggy in places, but when you get to about the 700m mark it's easy and enjoyable. The views behind to Ben Vane and Loch Lomond were superb. Once I gained the ridge the views improved even more, 360 degrees of pure joyful visibility. I took my summit photos and dropped down out of the wind for lunch, great spot to enjoy a P&J sandwich! Took a few more photos and started my descent, er, rapid descent I should say. It only took me 30 mins to get back to the paved track. I was bounding off the hill like a kangaroo - gotta love long legs sometimes. Stopped and picked a few blackberries back along the main road before saying goodbye to Ben Lomond in the distance. Altogether the walk took me 4 1/2 hours, so it was a good warmup for the rest of my weekend.
Excellent hill with superb views, what more could you ask for on your first trip to Loch Lomond?
