Walkhighlands

Last week I began to look at a walk with Roan and our puppy cockapoo at the weekend. So, to get things started, I had a couple of days reading the map and compass and doing more dry training with the Etrex10 GPS.
All good, and the weather forecast for Saturday afternoon was good, and was spot on with MWIS web page.

I asked my Dad to come along also if he had nothing planned for saturday, so he came along too
A glitch on Friday night, was when I asked Roan where his hill walking jacket was, he told me he threw it out!

So at 9am I was in Trespass, getting him a new green hill walking jacket, then back home pronto, then picking up Dad just before 1030, to drive to the start of the walk at Invergeldie at the full car park.

It was warm about 16 degrees with light winds and between 1-4 deg on the summit due to the wind chill, it was around 10 mph winds on the summit. The route took us past the cottages, over a bridge heading up towards a small dam, where I eat my cheese roll and gave a couple of bits to Betsy (pup). after 100m, turn left up the track and head towards a ford, then a cairn appx 700m with a track left up on the shoulder of Ben Chonzie. I thought the contour lines were tight so I decided to head right up to the end of the track, where there was a largr cairn. I took a bearing towards the fence posts and followed this up to the summit. at about 500m from the right angle on the fence post, Roan felt faint, this was due to him not eating enough on the way up, and wanted to eat his packed lunch at the top. I was constantly telling Roan to eat little and often throughout his walk but he said he was ok. He took some isotonic drink and after 2-3 mins he was good again.
At the end of the fence, we turned right and it was around 10 mins to the summit shelter. We all got there in 2 hours 55 mins (I had 2h 45 mins on the route card). Roan had his roll, cakes and drink at the summit shelter, then headed back down. Aiming towards the fence we turned left, at 400m we headed down the steep shoulder on the right, and this track took us towards the small cairn at the track. We stopped here for a rest and Dad took the grid reference here. It took 45 mins to get there from the summit shelter. Another 45 mins to get down towards the small dam, and along the way Betsy drank water from the ford. Another 30 mins to get to the car from the small dam. The total time was 5 and a half hours which inc small frequent stops througout the route. A nice walk and seen some places to spend a night wild camping near the ford.
