Loch Quoich paddle 'n' hike

Not a detailed trip report, but thought I'd share this one on the public forum as it's a slightly different route :)
Awesome adventure 8) Late start without an alarm, as we didn't think this route would take too long :? given we were cutting short the walk in/out by paddling across the loch :D Avoided the worst of the rain by doing this too, setting off in the sunshine late morning 8) Scoob liked the water crossing about as much as I like the bumpy off-road mountain biking we often do   All in though, a great day out and we made it back just before sunset :D
whDSC_0979.jpg
midges were out in force as we took time to get the kayak blown up
whDSC_1001.jpg
fairly calm crossing (was a bit more choppy on the way back)
whDSC00263.jpg
landed safely, heading along the low beach towards SMor
whDSC00291.jpg
steep climb up SMor from this side too
whDSC00324.jpg
Sgurr Mor summit at last :)
whDSC_1007.jpg
full route from SMor summit - 2 more to go then the paddle back across
whDSC00361.jpg
steep route down from the Corbett, losing most of the height we'd gained
whDSC00374.jpg
almost as steep climbing back up Gairich, now in passing showers
whDSC_1012.jpg
Gairich summit looking over to our starting point across the loch

happy man, back on dry land :D

Nice one!

Funnily enough, we were talking about a possible Loch Quoich canoe-into-the-hills trip on Saturday night round the campfire.

Cheers for posting that - was interesting to see. I never watch Youtube videos for some reason, so if Scoob had posted I would have missed it!

Thanks Malky  He's months behind on videos anyway (side tracked with the new van) but will soon catch up and get back to spamming

Nice start to the day...other than the midges
Paddling does look an interesting option but think I still prefer cycling  - cheers :)

I thought Mountainlove had set the precedent that this crossing has to be swum?

What brilliant hills though, and what a great day you had for it...

Worst midges we've been in this year! Cycling's great when there's a nice, smooth track

Only for swimmers though  ... I'm more of a kayaker and Scoob's a cyclist    Yep, great hills :)

Nice guys  . Good alternative way to do these hills. I just missed you by a couple of days as was there on Tue & wed before doing the 4 corbs and sgur mor with a summit camp. Been looking at inflatable kayaks as really want to do Ben Aden and Sgurr a'Choire-bheithe this way. You guys any plans for that?

Thanks ML  I loved the paddle! Waited a long time for such a calm, clear day on a weekend!

Thanks Dave! Didn't realise you'd been so recently; we're just weekenders though. Will definitely use the kayak for those corbs too  Scoob will manage fine since we don't need to cross the loch and can stay along the shore  Give us a shout when you're going - we have a spare kayak 8)
