Flipside (Billy), Mountain Coward (Carol) and I (Janet) had an overnight stay in one of Glen Loin's legendary caves last night and it was magic :D .

The all singing and all dancing one-man support team, chalkywhyte (Alan) very kindly greeted Billy and I when we stepped off the bus from Glasgow, and the three of us met up with Carol and magicdin (David) in the Village Inn for some great food and drink. A very big thank you to Alan and David for joining us in the pub and being such fine company :) .

We set off for the caves around 10pm in the dark, dark, dark. We didn't have any problems getting there at night, as Carol had revisited the caves the day before, to double-check the route and their condition - clever lassie :D . Billy was having a chuckle at the noises I was making as I was trying to stay on the path behind him though (it was wet and slippy in bits).

'I'm over here! I'm in the trees.'

'We know, Janet, we can see your head torch.'

We arrived at the cave and Carol and I spent the first ten minutes just taking it all in, ooh-ing and aah-ing at everything 8) . Billy on the other hand, got busy straight away, lighting and throwing glow sticks all over the place and getting the camp fire started 8) 8) .

We had tea loaf and cider to celebrate my birthday around midnight :) , and then we sat and chatted around the camp fire until around 3am. We could hear stags roaring throughout the night :) . We didn't get to use all of the peat blocks we had carried in, but the fire was still glowing in the morning. Sleeping in the cave was very mild, not the least bit cold  .

We got up at 8am and were packed ready to leave about 20 minutes later. Alan met up with us again for breakfast, but Billy and I had to leave the other two to enjoy their hot rolls and morning cuppa :eh: , as we were cutting it a bit fine to catch the bus back to Glasgow.

All three of us thought the cave-sleeping adventure was a terrific experience 8) , and it was great to meet up with a few fine folk from the forum :D .

Oh and here's a photo of the only teensy-weensy spider I saw in the cave :D ...

You have to look really closely to see it because it was tiny :-)

That was quick! Good report, these caves are bigger than I thought they'd be. It was too far for me to nip down with a blanket over my head and give you all a good scare though...

This report is lacking any ghost tales which would make it truly amazing. You could have also told us about your encounter with a cave troll, but no, just one tiny spider

Looks like a lot of fun regardless. See you all at the end of the month!

Sounds a lot less scary than I thought it would be, and it looks like you all had a great time.

And HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :D

That's what we were saying on the bus home, malky_c, it was so easy to just go and do that it was over and done with quickly (especially being so handy from the Glasgow area). Would probably combine it with a walk next time. we were wondering if we would get a visit from a suspect spook (forum member). I hear one of the bigger caves even has a pool of water in it.

 I think you're right, stretch. I didn't spend enough time compiling the report earlier because I was a wee bit whiffy and a big bit tired, so I was in a rush to post it so I could go and get a shower and a snooze. I was down playing the caves a tad too, so they don't end up being double-booked next time we go there  . I'm sure flipside and MC will add some flavour when they log in later though and yes, before anyone asks, MC was boiling hot in the cave and stripped her top half down to just her under garment as usual :P . Fortunately flipside is a happily marred father of two and wasn't phased at all, but her antics must have been too much for the trolls and spiders...the trolls must have found her scarier than spiders, and the spiders must have found her scarier than the trolls  .

Yup, see you in a couple of weeks, we were all saying how much we're looking forward to it :D . Notice I called this a mini meet. This would have been a good sized WH meet (5 persons) in days gone by, before you starting organising one where 30+ people have put their name down   .

Thanks IreneM, it wasn't scarey at all :) (even with MC telling us her hair-rasising ghost stories around the camp fire).

Yup, like I said, MC did...she flashed at them! :P

They are even worth exploring during the day, kinley, loads of nooks and crannies and photo-taking opportunities  .
