After my last venture up a hill, I was a bit dubious about going out again. Chose Monamenach, from Glen Isla as it looked a short route with good tracks which, to get my confidence back, sounded like what I needed. I had walked up to the Airlie Monument yesterday as it is on my door step and extended the normal walk along the river I do every day with Mez (dog face).

Being overly cautious, my alarm was set for 6am. By 8, we were off. Took about 50 minutes to reach Auchavan and park at the advised spot. The huge pot holes were full of water but my wee car managed to get through.

I'm sorry but the pictures are not that great. I took them as a momento of the walk, not the view as this wasn't what I was going for. I did't care that I saw nothing but mist.... :D

An hour's grunt and we arrived.

I believe the views from the top are absolutely gorgeous but I was happy to just walk up a steady, easily followed track, which gave me the confidence I'd lost, along with a good work out. I would fully recommend this hill and would love to do it again. A lovely wee Corbett that is under-rated.

After a coffee and buttie, we left.

Yes, the views from the top are good ;). Caenlochan Glen looks particularly wild :) . This hill will live in my memory as the day I ditched the boots for trail shoes for the first time. It can be combined with nearby Duchray Hill (a Graham) to make a longer day.

Congratulations merry
now you can plan with more confidence - there are dozens of routes up munros and other hills that are just as safe as this corbett.

Well done Merry-walker! Looks like a pretty grey day but at least you had an enjoyable couple of hours on the hill. I have this one pencilled in as a potential short outing for the coming winter. :)

After reading this report I went back and read your last one - well done to you on getting back out there and getting your confidence back ! Even though you had a hard time on the last trip, at least you knew where you were and you've learned a lot. It's given me something to think about as well for the future so thanks for that.

I enjoyed this hill too. Lots of good hills in Angus. Cat Law is another good quickie.

MW - like Rockehopper I went back and read your last report. What a nightmare! :-( Good for you to get back out there. I had a wee adventure today which I will post a bit later but nothing like yours. No way I would have been as calm as you were.

We ventured up this beautiful hill again today (Tuesday). Needed an old friend (old hill - nae old boyfriend :) ) to help get my confidence back. Just a few shots of our walk... Ronnie being my gorgeous model.
