Fellbarrow and Low Fell from Thacktwaite.
A very pleasant and straightforward walk, although care on the descent may be advised when the grass is wet - it can become very slippery on the steeper sections. I was probably more sensitive to the dangers of slipping and falling heavily as this was my first fell walking trip to the Lake District since having a hip replacement. In the event, I di slip and land heavily but the hip held up well, so they obviously did a good job. Fellbarrow also marked a small personal milestone as it was my 150th Wainwright. Still plenty to keep me going!
The walk offers excellent views across to Grassmoor and the Lakeland Fells from the summits, and when walking along the ridge, although these are probably much finer in the afternoon sunshine (mine was an early morning ascent). I was favoured with some clear skies and late autumn warmth and sunshine, especially welcome after the gales earlier in the week.
Some care may be needed when parking. Being early (c. 08.30) I had no problem, but by the time I got down thoughtless parking had blocked the lane and the police were in attendance taking car registration numbers!
