I had planned to have a walk up Deuchary Hill but the A923 through Dunkeld was closed off so, leaving the car in the river-side car park (£2.40), I headed up Newtyle Hill. I went up the steep road until I reached the Loch of the Lowes path sign and turned left. Past the turn to Haughend, I carried straight on up until I came to a metal gate.

The Loch path veered off left at this point. I walked along this very pleasant track to the communication mast, with great views down to the river below and across to Birnam Hill.

Just before the mast (as mentioned in previous helpful reports) a narrow muddy mountain bike track led off uphill through a felled area. I followed this to a more distinct track beside a wall which led to a wooden climbing gate at 045420. Over the gate, I followed a wall for a short distance, crossing it at an angle and heading off across rougher ground towards the summit at 050419, which was protected by deep heather and rocky outcrops.

After a quick stop, I just headed back down the route of ascent.
